For nearly 20 years, renown Intarsist Rick Marvin has been creating phenomenal collectible wood mosaics that only the finest of galleries could display. Intarsia is a finely handcrafted wood art, painstakingly made from the finest rare woods, to create unique mosaic inlaid patterns which are extremely pleasing to the eye. Intarsia is thought to have been developed during the thirteenth century Renaissance period in Siena, Italy. The process was derived from the Middle Eastern inlays of ivory upon wood. Now, these unique, intricately carved designs of mostly Western and Native American themes, all one of a kind, are available for sale at Southwest Art & Southwest Décor, thanks to Rick Marvin.
Theres no mistaking Rick Marvins artwork from imitation or mass produced wood patterns assembled from kits that can be found at local craft shows or hobby shops. A man obsessed with his craft and recognized for his sophistication of the art form, carves each individually selected piece of wood to an appropriate shape and thickness, to bring vivid life to the mosaic work he is creating. Rick uses only the finests of woods, including walnut, cocobola, zebrawood, mahogany, oak, maple and African Padauk, among many others, in his intricate designs.
As a boy, Rick Marvin would sometimes go into work with his dad, a patternmaker for Ford Motor Company, and watch how skilled tool and die makers worked their wonders. And then hed come home to his favorite TV program, the 1950s-era Lone Ranger. It helped instill in him a lifelong interest in and respect for Native American culture and themes connected to the Old West.
On behalf of Rick Marvin and Southwest Art & Southwest Décor, we are certain youll enjoy this richly detailed art and invariably come away impressed.
